Beautiful Weekend

sorry for not posting last night or this morning but the blogsite was down and I wasn't able to. But what a crazy weekend - think I need a break :)....

Went to St. Anthony's festival on Saturday night and met Sean, Jeremy and mom down there along with tons of people we knew. It is funny how going to grade school you think the place is so big, but when you go back, you seem like such a giant - it is crazy, but we had so much fun and of course brought home a bag full of "fun" festival prizes.

Sunday was Hut A/C day at Florence Freedom - what a great way to honor dad and all of the other members that they will be honoring. They made shirts for us with our names on the back and the kids had been wearing BT on their sleeves all year. We got to walk on the field and Jen said she felt famous, it was her time to shine :).... It was really neat in that the three men who gave us the plague were men that dad had coached for years and now they are coaches themselves. Jason actually we have known since he was a tiny baby and then Clay and Pat knew us when we were all little :)... They kept teasing Sean since he was going to throw out the first pitch that they would move the rubber up so he didn't have to throw from the real pitchers mound but he did and Jeremy caught it - Clay's team was playing the next game and he told us that as he was down on his knee talking to his players he was telling them about dad and that this game was for him.

It was neat in that the two teams lined up on either side of us while we were in the middle, and when we were done, they went up to mom and shook her hand and said "Thank You". One of the kids on the team that was about to play mom knew from school. One day she was talking to him and she found out he had played for the Hut. And she asked him if they were wearing a patch on their sleeve with a BT on it. The kid said yes, and mom asked him if he knew what it was for. He said he didn't know it was some old guy that just died and it was to honor him he thought :) LOL - What a funny story.

I took a video and I will try to get it uploaded this week, but here is what they said about dad - it was such a beautiful day - thank you to the Hut A/C for doing it, to Jason, Clay, and Pat. Thank you to Aunt Carol and Uncle Mike, Tonya and Sue for coming - it meant a lot to each of us to have you participate in what dad would have loved. Great baseball games, cold beer and family and friends!

Here is a synopsis of what was said:

Hut A/C was formed in 1968 after Holy Cross Vets stopped operation. The men who coached the Vet's teams wanted to make sure their teams still had a place to play. After meeting at the Huntington Hut for a few months, the Hut Athletic Club was born.

Bill Timmerding was one of the original coaches and founding fathers of our organization. Bill coached three teams starting at the age of 7 and finishing with the boys when they were 15. He also helped developed the first softball teams in the organization. Combined that is 30 years of involvement in the lives of over 60 young men. Teaching not only the fundamentals of baseball but also how to grow up to be responsible adults, to always give back to your community. All three teams had their share of winning between regular season and city tournaments. Each team has produced future coaches for Hut A/C. Bill's leadership and dedication to our organization not just on the field but with fundraisers, caring for his team have helped the Hut grow from 8 teams to our current 24 teams this year. The Hut A/C would like to express the gratitude and appreciation to the Timmerding family........

It goes on but I am sure you are all bored with it. I will put the video up sometime this week and you can hear it. Dad loved coaching baseball and he loved the Hut A/C - all five of us spent our childhood and early teens, even as adults on those baseball/softball fields. We grew to love the sport and hope we are able to be examples of dad by giving back to our community.

Thank you dad - Miss and love you -

Much love to all,
