RELAY FOR LIFE....

Okay - I am tired of this cancer crap and I just really, really want to kick its Ass! (excuse my language) - I know it isn't much but I decided to form a team for the Relay for Life Walk. It is scheduled for June 13th-14th at Dixie Heights High School. It is a little different in that it starts at Midnight on the 13th and you finish at 6:00am on the 14th. It is not a run or a marathon, you just form a team and you have to have one member of your team on the track at all times. So you could walk for an hour or fifteen minutes or you could walk around the track the whole night. If we can get enough members on our team and if you can stay awake we may have shifts of walking for only an hour if that. I know it's late and alot of people will be snoozing, but if you are a late owl and aren't doing anything else.....

So if you would like to join our team or would like to contribute to our fight against this horrible disease go to the following link and follow the directions. If you have any problems please let me know and I can help you through it.

Team Name is: Ding Dong ( I know it's corny)

This is in memory of all the family and friends we have lost to cancer, this is for all our family and friends we know that are fighting this disease and it is for the hope of finally finding a cure so our future generations don't have to go through this horrific disease.

Much love to all,

  1. Michelle and all,

Well we are back. Safe and sound in our
own comfortable space. I really cannot
remember a more moving and wonderful experience
in my short life of 70 years. Faith is a beautiful thing. Love is a beautiful thing.

We were called by God to visit our brother and
answered his call. Thank you God.
What we experienced was a loving family who I
believe felt that being together at this moment in time was very important. All the hugs and thoughts and tears...all the hugs and thoughts and expressions and tears. WOW

Brother Bill did very well on the trip.
We had a serious delay because of paperwork on the second leg of our flights down.
So we were late getting into Orlando. When we went to Budget to pick up our 4 door economy car
we found a 2 dr 2 seat VW convertible. Ha...what a surprise for 4 guys with luggage. Needless to say I went back and we able to get a 4 dr Ford focus. After John programnmed the GPS we were on our way, then it was all about... who has quarters for all these tolls? They forced me to drive. Since it was about 3:30 AM we decided to go on to the hotel and sleep a couple hours and then go to hospice unit. We all just got into a deep sleep and Bill got the phone call.. we all got up after about an hour of sleep and drove to the hospice unit to view Wally. Shed some tears and do some hugging. All the kids were present with Bernie.
Then it was time and we went back to hotel to get a few hours sleep. Around noon we all took a walk and decided on an appetizer. Great french fried onion rings.
We called and then went over to Camelia Trail and began the hugs all over again.
We started telling stories and remembering Wally.
It was remarkable how much love was in the air.
The kids were all slamming each other and reminiscing about the times they had growing up. Turtle,Fred,Bucket,Otis, who are these people?
Times like not leaving the table until they finish their supper. Or waiting until Wally fell asleep so they could go out on halloween.
Memories..memories..we are all making memories,we need to cherish them, for the time when thats all we have.
The whole time we were reminiscing the girls and Bernie were fixing chili, spagetti, and toast for about 20-30 people, what a treat. Especially the cakes and pies from the neighbors.
After dinner it was suggested we play cards.
There was talk of shanghi, but we played chase the Ace. (It was fun losing on purpose! I couldn't take their money at a time like this.)
Then it was time for hugs and back to the hotel.
The next morning we decided to check out the area and drove around 'The Villages'. Then back to the hotel, Bill took a nap and Dave, John, and Tom went swimming for about an hour.
We then got Bill and went over to the house again for more hugs.
Then it was a tour conducted by Bernie of the
    hall,pool, and shuffleboard courts.
Hey, then we went fishing and I caught a large
branch, the biggest catch of the day. Tom did catch a little tiny fish. Poor Bill, he just kept getting his line all tangled in the reel.
Something about a 'backlash' when casting.
Hey Bucket(Jeremy), help me out here!
After our fishing event we went back to the house and talked while the girls made a great
    Spagetti and meatballs dinner.
Goodbye's and hugs, then back to the hotel.
After an early breakfast we left for the airport.
Arrived Charlotte and got the electric cart for Bill and I to go to the next gate. We got there and Bill had to go to the men's room. Well the plane started boarding. I told John and Tom to go ahead and I would wait for Bill. I waited... I waited... everyone was on board... I waited... I told the gate attendant I was waiting for my brother and she said o.k. there's 8 minutes.
Oh Oh I went to check on Bill... Bill you in there? Yeah. Well hurry up. He said I thought we had 20 minutes. So we made it.
    All's well that ends well.

  2. Dear Dave and fellow travellers
Thank you so much for the update about your trip.
You packed a lot in a few days. Congratulations on the biggest fish. Are there any other claims for the best fish?
Sorry about your glitches. I wish Joy and I could have taken them instead of you. At least we were travelling in the daytime and there is a lot more help available during the day.
I know that The Holy Spirit guided you all to be there at this particular time. How wonderful that you could be with Bernie and family. I feel that you were also there for the rest of us who couldn't be there.
    Love
    Rita
